CALI Strong Sports Gear At The Port Hueneme Main Navy Exchange
CALI Strong Sports Gear on sale at the Port Hueneme Main Navy Exchange. The NEX at Port Hueneme is located on and serves the Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) with more than 19,000 personnel. Near Oxnard, California, the NBVC is composed of three main facilities:
- Point Mugu
- Port Hueneme
- San Nicolas Island (SNI)
The base was formed in 2000 through the merger of the Naval Construction Battalion Center Port Hueneme and the Naval Air Station Point Mugu.
The United States Navy at Port Hueneme operates the only deep-water port between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Port Hueneme is the homeport of the U.S. Navy Seabees and the official U.S. Navy Seabee Museum, one of only ten official U.S. Navy museums. Port Hueneme was originally built as a temporary depot in the early days of World War II to train, stage, and supply the then newly created Seabees.
At Point Mugu, NBVC operates two runways and a 36,000 square mile sea test range, anchored by San Nicolas Island. The military tests and tracks weapons systems in the island’s restricted air and sea space without encroaching on civilian air traffic or shipping lanes.
At San Nicolas Island (SNI), NBVC operates Naval Outlying Field San Nicolas Island, which has a 10,002 foot concrete and asphalt runway capable of accommodating large aircraft like the C-5 Galaxy.
In 2013, the U.S. Navy proposed to base four MQ-4C Tritons beginning in 2020 for a projected cost of $74.3 million. This new addition would require 700 additional personnel and their dependents to the base. The MQ-4C Triton is an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) that provides real-time intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) over vast ocean and coastal regions.
