Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution that provides pediatric health care and helps patients more than 528,000 times a year. As the first and largest pediatric hospital in Southern California, CHLA relies on the generosity of philanthropists in the community to support its compassionate patient care, leading-edge education of the caregivers and innovative research efforts that impact children at the hospital and world wide.
Juvenile Myositis (JM), including Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM) and Juvenile Polymyositis (JPM), is a group of rare and life-threatening autoimmune diseases, in which the body’s immune system attacks its own cells and tissues. Weak muscles and skin rash are the primary symptoms of JDM, while muscle weakness without a rash is the primary symptom of JPM.
Cure JM Foundation was established in October 2003 by Shari Hume, Tom Hume and Lisa Felix, all parents of children with JM, and by Harriet Bollar, grandmother of a child with JM. They were brought together only by circumstance, but with the same determination to find a cure for Juvenile Myositis. Their ultimate goal was to eradicate JM, so that no child would ever have to suffer from this insidious disease again.
